Australian Convict Sites Port Arthur contains a statue of a chained dog recalling the "Dog Line" by which a line of dogs placed across a narrow neck of land was used to prevent prisoner escapes. See -
Cistercian Abbey of Fontenay Two statues of dogs guard the entrance to the former kennel. The dogs belonging to the Dukes of Burgundy, who hunted in the forest, were kept here.
Edinburgh "Greyfriars Bobby" - "was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh for supposedly spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner until he died himself on 14 January 1872". The story has made locations related to the dog tourist attractions - the main one is Greyfriars Kirkyard - "The dog's statue is opposite the graveyard's gate, at the junction of George IV Bridge and Candlemaker Row. Hoi An Japanese Covered Bridge: At one end of the bridge, there is a sculpture of dog and on the other end of the bridge here is a sculpture of monkey. These two animals are symbol of sacredness in Japanese culture. Another reason behind these animal sculptures is that according to the Asian zodiac signs, in the year of monkey and the year of dog many of the Japanese emperors were born. Records also say that the construction of the bridge was initiated in the dog year and was finished in the monkey year.
Ruins of León Viejo The site contains a statue of a dog biting the leg of an indigenous man in memory of one particularly brutal early event there when the governor murdered 12 Indian hostages in 1528 using his killer dogs as the executioners.
